Hit two quick books this week.
  1. Jack Wakes Up. Seth Harwood
  2. Gone Tomorrow. Lee Child

Both were really fast reads. Fun and well done. The Reacher novel was head and shoulders above the last one. The Seth Harwood is bursting with barely contained pathos. great first book. Hopefully more to follow.

Catching Up is Hard to Do

I've done these things, but haven't commented on them. So, I'll try to wrap this up.

1. Blogs: I've enjoyed putting mine together and looking at others. I'm not really interested in putting all my business out on the information super highway. I'm sure I'll continue to use mine to track my reading and for readers advisory.

2. RSS Feeds: Great way to keep track of sites/blogs that you're interested in.

3. Wikis: We've actually been doing some of this for sometime and I'm sure we'll be doing more in the future.

4. Online Productivity: Goggle Docs says it all for me.

5. Bonus: Jango internet Radio. What a great find! Personalized music anytime you want it. Fantastic variety. I've been on LibraryThing since 2005. I like everything about it. They are constantly working to improve the site. And it was a great way for me to keep in touch with everyone while I was in Iraq.

I really don't feel that I've been able to devote enough time to experiment with all these applications, but it's nice that they'll be there waiting when I get more time.

Tags and Social Bookmarks.

Lynn G. actually used Social Bookmarks to gather resources for our job search class. He said they were very helpful. Look forward to using them on the desk as some point.

I Joined Delicious and it was Good!!

I enjoyed the tagging and Social Bookmarking presentation. These functions can transfer directly to what we do everyday at our various desks. I like the idea of being to share the information among staff members. Lots of potential.

I finished the Glen Cook book, but I didn't go to philip Kerr. I picked up a nonfiction book about the korean war called the Four Deuces C.S. Crawford. It's very good.

Social Networking

My first impression of social networking is that it's a useful tool for people who have a lot of friends and family they want to keep up with. Many of the nuances are lost on me since I'm not socially inclined, digitally or in this dimension. I think there are still a lot of intellectual, creative ownership, and privacy issues to be resolved. I often get the feeling that too many corporations feel that they own and control much of the content on these sites. Maybe even the Internet itself. I will say that, I feel these sites have come long way in a short time and will continue to evolve and improve in the future.

I'm currently reading Glen Cook's Lord of the Silent Kingdom Vol 2 of the Instrumentalities of the Night. Great fantasy read! Looking forward to the 3rd Vol. I'm onto Philip Kerr's Quiet Flame once I'm done with Cook.
